When it comes inclusion, Lai Chack Middle School adopts a whole-school approach to help students with special educational needs. All school personnel, including the principal, teachers, schools social workers, teaching assistants and non-teaching staff are cooperating to help students with special needs. The Academic Board has a SEN Support team, which is under the guidance of the principal and vice-principal. It has a Special Educational Needs Coordinator who works together with guidance directors, social workers, teachers and school-based educational psychologists to develop appropriate support plans for students in need. In order to enable curriculums and methodologies to meet the needs of all students, professional training and talks are provided to our teachers regularly, enhancing professional knowledge among teachers, as well as encouraging other school personnel to share responsibilities in looking after students’ individual differences and special needs. By utilizing Learning Support Grant and Grant for supporting Non-Chinese Speaking Students with Special Educational Needs, Students with special educational needs are integrated into mainstream class, whilst also occasionally withdrew for special tutoring, conducting individual classroom tutoring, organizing various training activities and inclusive activities, etc. Dialogue between parents and the school is frequent to facilitate students’ learning. It is also our goal to ensure that our school’s assessment mechanism is fair to all students, including students with special educational needs. Hence, a harmonious environment with a caring, supportive and inclusive school culture is established in Lai Chack.
